Angel De Lange, born in 1992 in Delmas, South Africa, discovered her love for music almost as soon as she could speak. Growing up with a mother who was a church organist in Ogies, Angel first performed publicly at age three, entering a church singing competition with “Die brood en die bord.” Her early influences ranged from Afrikaans icons like Bles Bridges to international artists such as Dolly Parton, shaping a diverse musical taste.
During her school years at Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen, Angel honed her voice through competitions and performances, developing the stage presence that would later define her. After school, she tried various careers but ultimately followed the pull of music. In 2012, she performed internationally, including a nine-month stint in Qatar with an eight-piece band and a brief period in Newcastle, UK, experiences that broadened her skills and exposure.
Back in South Africa, she collaborated with the late Fredi Nest on tribute and duet projects, though his untimely death challenged her resolve. Angel’s signature raspy voice, or “rasperstem,” became a defining trait despite health challenges, including vocal nodules. She later signed with Select Musiek, releasing the album Vat My Terug, and has worked with songwriters like Rudi Claase and Manie Jackson, exploring country, contemporary, Afrikaans, and “sokkie” styles.
Off-stage, Angel is grounded and deeply connected to her Christian faith. She values simplicity, often retreating to the countryside to enjoy quiet moments around a campfire. Her music reflects this blend of personal authenticity and professional ambition. As of 2023, she continues to perform and record, proudly identifying as a country-rock artist and an Afrikaans South African, committed to sharing her music with audiences at home and beyond.
